Kenneth Charles (New York, 1968)  is a Sculptor and Designer working from his studio in Asheville, NC.

In 2010 he started sculpting.  Educated as a Graphic in the late1990s, he missed working with his hands once the computer and monitor took over the workspace.

Today Kenneth Charles works with metal, clay and cast stone molds and considers his aesthetic to be modern abstract with a focus on geometric shapes. With each eye pleasing design, he creates a story inspired by experiences in his day-to-day life. Kenneth Charles strives to create art that enlightens himself and others.

statement

I love design!!  Architecture, Landscape, Interior, Furniture all of it.  But most of all, I love working with my hands which led me to sculpture..

Educated and trained in Graphic Design in the late 1980s.  The first Ad Agency I worked for out of college didn’t have one computer in the house. We worked on every project by hand.  This is what I signed up for!  My second job was 100% on the computer which moved me away from working with my hands. That was my last job in commercial art.

In 2009 I started taking sculpture classes at Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park Florida. I worked primarily in clay and was also introduced to mold making.  It was during this time that I created the “Organic Cast Stone Series”

Ten years later I was introduced to welding through a workshop at Crealdé.   I soon realized how much I enjoy fabricating.  This wasn’t a total surprise since I loved Legos as a child where I would spend hours creating and building different pieces.  My current work consists mostly of sharp edged geometric shapes and forms.  As I learn more about working with metal, I hope to create a series of pieces with organic curves and rounded edges.
